The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) through its Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) ignited intellectual property (IP) awareness to one of the UP College of Nursing (UPCN) classes after conducting its Fundamentals of the IP System webinar via Zoom last July 15, 2021.

With its mission to provide the best quality protection to UP Manila’s intellectual property assets, the TTBDO once again extended its services by providing a comprehensive set of lectures for a class pf nursing students.

The program started with a warm welcome from Dr. Lourdes Marie S. Tejero, who is the Director of the UPM TTBDO and also the former Dean of the College. Dr. Tejero emphasized the important contribution of nurses in healthcare and their potential in producing intellectual properties through their ingenious healthcare interventions.

The half day webinar focused on the overview of the IP system which highlighted its benefits and impact to the innovation society. Some important topics tackled include the nature and advantages of patents, copyright and related rights, and trademarks.

The event was graced by a total of 52 participants majority of whom are nursing students led by their Professor, Dr. Floreliz Ngaya-An who also closed the program by her kind remarks.
