University of the Philippines Manila bags Platinum Award recognition from the Intellectual Property of the Philippines

Through the University of the Philippines Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UPM TTBDO), UP Manila received a Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) last April 18, 2022. This is the highest recognition being given by IPOPHL for the country’s 2021 top and high-performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) under the ITSO 2.0 Program. The ITSO project which was first conceptualized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in 2010 is now composed of more than 100 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research institution-partners of IPOPHL in the Philippines.

 

The 2021 Platinum Recognition Award is given to ITSOs that filed at least seven invention patents and have commercialized or assisted in the commercialization of at least one technology either through licensing or through other modes of commercialization, such as the establishment of a start-up company. In 2021, UP Manila TTBDO drafted and filed ten (10) invention patents and successfully commercialized its Patent and Know-How through Licensing Agreements with Lifesquare Laboratories, Inc., Pharmacare Products Corporation, and St. Raphael The Archangel Pharmaceutical Distributor. UPM TTBDO also received awards for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories. Gold was awarded to the University for having drafted and filed ten (10) invention patents in 2021. Silver was awarded to the University for having provided 24 patent searches services in 2021. Bronze was awarded to the University for integrating and offering a three-unit Intellectual Property (IP) subject in its academic curriculum. (SCALim)
