DESCRIPTION

The invention is the first wound dressing and topical drug delivery system that uses Philippine Natural Grade Carrageenan in the form of a lyophilized wafer.  It may also be utilized for cosmetic applications for skincare.

VALUE PROPOSITION

    1. Material can be incorporated with nutrients that can be delivered effectively to the skin
    2. Huge potential for cosmetic applications
    3. Can be developed as a wound dressing and topical drug delivery for clinical applications
    4. Widely available raw materials in the Philippines

MARKET APPLICATION AND COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITIES

Conventional wound care products have presented drug delivery challenges in wound management. The development of novel delivery systems that allow controlled drug release with additional properties that facilitate wound healing has been increasing to address the challenges in wound care. The invention uses Philippine Natural Grade Carrageenan as a vehicle and dressing for wound healing applications. 

Philippine Carrageenan is widely available in the Philippines, commonly used in the food industry. It is very affordable in terms of sourcing and acquisition.

In addition, there are other opportunities for utilizing this technology in cosmetic applications. It can be incorporated with nutrients and deliver them to the skin.

DEVELOPMENT STATUS

For preclinical testing as a wound dressing and other potential cosmetic applications.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY STATUS

Invention Patent has been filed in the Philippines.

EVALUATION TESTS

The technology demonstrated ability for drug incorporation and release, with good physical properties that are useful in wound management.

Licensing. We are looking for IP licensees interested in expanding the cosmetic and wound dressing market

Co-Investment/Co-Funding. We are looking for partners and co-investors to fund further studies for preclinical and safety tests.
