OFFICE PROFILE

The UP Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UPM TTBDO) is the office mandated to safeguard the intellectual property of the members of the UP Manila community while actively supporting the transfer of research-based technologies from the laboratory to real-world use.

By building partnerships and streamlining processes, the TTBDO helps move innovations more quickly from the bench to the community.

HISTORY OF UPM TTBDO

The UP Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UPM TTBDO) was established to support the management, protection, and utilization of intellectual property generated by researchers of the University. Its creation followed the enactment of Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009, which strengthened technology transfer and intellectual property management across Philippine universities. In alignment with this law, the University adopted the University of the Philippines Intellectual Property Policy in 2011 and subsequently institutionalized technology transfer offices across its constituent units. Since then, the UP Manila TTBDO has played a key role in safeguarding innovations, supporting inventors, and translating research outputs into technologies that benefit the Filipino people.
