The University of the Philippines Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office organized the Fundamentals of Intellectual Property Webinar for the College of Dentistry, which took place on February 10, 2023, via Zoom. The purpose of the event was to raise Intellectual Property awareness within the UP Manila Community of faculty, students, and researchers.
The webinar aimed to provide valuable insights into the basics of IP, its types, and its benefits to individuals, companies, and society as a whole. The event featured speakers from the UP Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office, who shared their expertise on IP protection.
The program flow started with opening remarks from Bienvenido S. Balotro, the OIC Director of UP Manila-TTBDO, followed by a presentation by Engr. Julian S. de Lara on the introduction and basics of intellectual property and technology transfer. Engr. Kevin L. Ocampo then discussed the nature of patent and the advantages of patent protection, providing attendees with an overview of the patent application process, how to maintain patent protection, and the benefits of obtaining a patent.
Kimberly Megan O. Chua, Technology Transfer Officer at UP Manila-TTBDO, then shared insights into trademark protection. She provided an overview of the trademark registration process, how to enforce their rights as a trademark owner, and the benefits of owning a trademark. Stephen Chelben Lim, Technology Transfer Officer at UP Manila-TTBDO, discussed the nature and advantages of copyright protection, providing an overview of the copyright registration process, how to enforce copyright protection, and the benefits of owning a copyright.
The event concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks from Michelle Sunico Segarra, D.D.M., M.O.H., Ph.D., the Dean of the College of Dentistry. The Fundamentals of Intellectual Property Webinar was an excellent opportunity for the UP Manila community to learn about the importance of IP protection and how it can benefit individuals and companies. Attendees left the webinar with valuable insights that will help them protect their innovations and creations.
