Philippine Medical Expo 2026
The University of the Philippines Manila Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UP Manila TTBDO) participated in the Philippine Medical Expo 2026 held from August 19 to 21 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City. The event was held in conjunction with the Infectious Disease Control, PhilMedtech, PhilDental Expo 2026, Philippines Eldercare Technology Exhibition (ELDEX), and the 4th Edition of PhilFit & PhilWell Expo 2026. This year’s theme was “Smarter Healthcare, Stronger Future: Advancing Digitalization and Innovation for All.”
UP Manila TTBDO setup a booth during the three-day duration of the expo informing the visitors of the technologies developed by UP Manila constituents and how the office deploys those technologies to intended users via several technology transfer modes such as licensing, spin-off, joint venture, etc. The booth was visited by expo participants such as business executives, embassy officials, and the general medical product users or consumers who are interested in UP Manila’s technologies ranging from herbal medicines, medical devices and diagnostics, digital health, and learning materials.
KAPIHAN
In the morning of August 21, 2026, a UP Manila Kapihan was held for the start-up community with the theme “Healing Through Innovation: Conversations that Matter.” The event featured a talk delivered by Dr. Hernando Delizo, Group Chair and CEO of Healthcare Business Development Group of Companies which delved on relevant healthcare innovations for the current Philippine situation. His talk stirred inspiration in the world café that followed where the participants freely conversed about the challenges they encountered in their start-up or innovation, their success stories, and the insights that they can learn from one another.
HEALTHCARE FORUM & SEMINAR
In the afternoon of August 21, 2026, a seminar hosted by the Medical Device Association of the Philippines (MDAP) supported by UP Manila TTBDO was held. The event featured lectures by Dr. Gerardo “Gap” D. Legaspi, Director of UP Manila Philippine General Hospital (UPM PGH) and Dr. Venus Oliva “Ivy” Cloma-Rosales, Founder and Managing Director of 101 Health Research. Dr. Legaspi delivered a very insightful lecture on “Bridging Gaps: Innovations for Clinical Needs” where he mentioned about the innovations done at UPM PGH to address the clinical needs of the hospital. Among the highlights of his talk was their successful capacity building in neurosurgery in Batanes, where the surgeon in training there successfully operated on the patient with directions from Dr. Legaspi using Viber while he is in UPM PGH. Meanwhile, Dr. Cloma-Rosales delivered a talk on “Healthcare 360: Connecting Care, Talent, and Learning for a Smarter, Future-Ready Health System.” In her talk, she discussed about systems thinking as applied to health systems; scanning forces, setting priorities, and acting for future readiness; workforce and research-system findings using the case of the nursing profession in the Philippines; and organizational check before introducing technology or AI.
The participation of UP Manila TTBDO in the Philippine Medical Expo 2026 was generally fruitful and the team is very much excited for more collaborations arising from this event. See you in the next iteration of the Philippine Medical Expo in 2027!
