Tsaang gubat [Carmona retusa (Vahl) Masamune] is a shrub found in the Philippines. Its leaves have been utilized by our ancestors as a tea for stomach problems and loose bowel movement. It contains α-amyrin, β- amyrin and baurenol which have shown analgesic activity, anti-diarrheal and anti-spasmodic activity.

MARKET APPLICATION AND COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITIES
Gastroenteritis and diarrhea are leading causes of morbidity in the Philippines. Also, at least 10% of all Filipinos endure the eﬀects of irritable bowel syndrome. Approximately 5 Million Filipinos suﬀer from gallstones. Tsaang gubat medicine developed by NIRPROMP is the only clinically proven herbal medicine in the Philippines to address all these conditions.
Tsaang gubat is an aﬀordable, and easy to produced herbal medicine to treat urinary tract stones as opposed to more expensive medical or surgical alternatives. It was developed by Filipino researchers from Filipino plants to boost the Philippine Pharmaceutical Industry, provide new cash crops for farmers and oﬀer Filipinos medical and ﬁnancial beneﬁts.
The technology completed clinical trials phases 1-3 and has shown promising results. It is now available for mass production and is ready for the consumption of the public as medicine.
